Sustainability Statement
Our values are what we believe in and they underpin everything. One of our values is to Transform - making a positive impact on Blackpool and its people. In doing this, we aspire to be a force for good in Blackpool, as Blackpool must be for the world.
Sustainability is a major part of who we are and at Showtown we understand that our activities and choices have social, environmental and financial implications, each of which has a role to play in operating as a sustainable organisation.
To operate in a more sustainable way and make Blackpool a better place for everyone we will ensure to have conversations with our visitors, shareholders, partners and our team. Looking at our future programming, we will always try and explore questions around sustainability to help promote public awareness about sustainability by the stories we tell. We understand tackling sustainability challenges is a shared effort and we will collaborate with our partners and external networks to exchange ideas, learning and support. Working in a sustainable way is part of our working culture. Always trying to improve our daily operations to improve our sustainability and make sure they are the best they can be. We will always ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations and we will seek to achieve best practice where we can.
It is important that we also look after our team and make sure they maintain a good work-life balance and promote activities focused on the health and wellbeing of staff and volunteers, especially with our colleague development partners Laugh, Think, Play. As well as this, we will promote the use of public transport by visitors and staff, support cycling initiatives and limit journeys by our vehicles.
Technology can be used to contribute to working more efficiently and using less natural resources and we will keep up-to-date with and be open to new ways to do this. We will do our best not to be wasteful and take care of resources. Finding more ways to reduce, re-use or recycle the resources we require is an ongoing task. We are reducing single-use plastics in the Showtown Gift Shop; re-using key items such as showcases in exhibitions and recycling packing materials. Plus we will work with our suppliers to ensure ethical and local sourced products for retail where possible.
This is an early iteration of our on-going commitment which will develop over our first full year of opening.
