Showtown is launching a brand-new interactive app that brings Blackpool’s rich comedy heritage to life. This engaging digital adventure allows visitors to explore the iconic Comedy Carpet in an entirely new way—through an interactive app designed for everyone to enjoy!
Armed with the Showtown Visitor App, participants will embark on a fun-filled journey across the Comedy Carpet, searching for jokes, catchphrases and punchlines from some of the UK’s greatest comedians.
Here’s how it works:
See It: The app will display an image of a joke or famous catchphrase.
Find It: It’s your mission to locate and scan it on the Comedy Carpet itself.
Unlock It: Get it right and you’ll unlock an exclusive video packed with insights from comedy experts and hilarious moments from top comedians.
Bringing the Comedy Carpet to Life
Showtown is dedicated to preserving and celebrating Blackpool’s legendary entertainment history. As part of this mission, we are transforming the Comedy Carpet into an interactive playground of laughter and nostalgia using cutting-edge image recognition technology in our Visitor App.
By scanning selected jokes, words or illustrations, visitors can instantly access exclusive content, making their experience even more immersive and entertaining.

This exciting new app feature was developed with input from Showtown’s Youth Academy - a group of nine comedy enthusiasts aged 14-18 in a project funded by the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund.
They delved deep into Blackpool’s comedic past and carefully selected 10 legendary performers to highlight in this project:
