Abstract: William Buckley was a key photographer in recording Blackpool’s built environment as was his son Roy. The collection spans a large part proportion of the changing face of Blackpool in the 20th century.

Conditions Governing Access: Print copies of these images are open for research use on open access in the history centre. The glass negatives are not available for consultation on a preservation basis.
Physical Access: Printed copies of Buckley images are available for consultation within the History Centre. For ease of access it is helpful to email with images you would like to see in advance but they can be retrieved for you on the day of your visit but it will take longer. Researchers must handle unprotected photographs with gloves.
Conditions Governing Reproduction and Use: The History Centre holds copyright on the images. All reproduction and duplication requests must be reviewed and approved by History Centre staff. Note: The collection is due for high resolution digitisation in 2020/21. At present we do not have digital copies of all these images available reuse.

In-depth information about the collections
Administrative/Biographical History: William Rawlinson Buckley started his photography business in 1904. He was the photographer who took the 1920s images that proliferate in the collection. His studio was in Cocker Square. He died on 31 Dec 1956. Roy Buckley was born in 1916, and joined the business at the age of 16. Roy retired and closed the business in 1970. He died in 1983.
Scope and Content: Mostly glass negatives with a small number of film and print images. Surrogates are available for research and access.

Acquisition Information: The Buckley Photograph collection was purchased by the library in 2009. Blackpool Council also purchased copyrights along with the collection.
